Getting to Ghent
Ghent’s strategic location ensures easy accessibility for international delegates.
By plane
The city is well-connected to Brussels' two international airports:
Brussels National Airport (Zaventem)
- The railway station is located under the departures and arrivals hall. After the baggage claim area, use the stairs or the elevator to reach floor -1.
- Buy your ticket from one of the machines or in the app, scan the QR code and pass through the gates.
- Take a direct train or transfer at Bruxelles-Midi. Both trains will take you in '55-'58 minutes to Gent-Sint-Pieters, Ghent's main railway station.
Charleroi-Brussels South (1hr20' by shuttle bus)
- The bus stops are located right outside the airport.
- Buy your ticket from one of the machines or via the flibco website.
- The bus will drop you off at the back of Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station in about 1h30 minutes.
By train
Brussels (Brussel-Zuid/ Bruxelles-Midi) has international train connections to major European hubs. From Brussels, you can take a train to Ghent in just 35 minutes. The main station is 'Gent-Sint-Pieters' or 'Gent-St-Pieters'.
Check timetables and book your tickets at the website of the national railway company SNCB.
By bus
FlixBus offers long-distance buses to Ghent from all over Europe. Timetables and tickets can be found at their website.
Getting around in Ghent
The city centre is car-free, but taxis can pass. You can reach the other parts of the city easily and quickly by foot, bus, tram or taxi. You can find more information on the city's website.
By public transport
Trams and buses run frequently within the city center. There is contactless payment on buses and trams, but there are also ticket offices at the railway station (look for 'De Lijn'), or you can download the app 'De Lijn', which will also show you the timetables. A ticket is €3 for one hour.
By taxi
Taxis offer payment by (credit/debit) card, or via the Uber app.
By bike
If you'd like a fully local experience, you can rent a bike from Fietsambassade (€16 for one day, €36 for one week). In 2025, Ghent was named Belgium's most bike-friendly city!
