Ghent is a rather small university city. It has some 300000 inhabitants and you can cross the city center on foot in an hour if you rush it. But why would you rush it? With a rich history, a large cultural scene, picture-perfect Medieval streets, an exciting nightlife and excellent cuisine, Ghent is a wonderful place to linger. Lonely Planet calls Ghent “Belgium’s best kept secret”. Or The Guardian, which praises the city for its sensory delights. Or The New York Times, which fell in love with Ghent’s “canals, spires, cobblestone streets and some of Belgium’s best food and design”. And to top it off, Ghent ranks 9th in the 2024 Oxford Economics' Global Cities Index. In sum: it’s a nice place.
